![]() The Island A flat, overgrown grass hill hovers – held only by a few supporting columns – 3 m above the pavement. A man, who seems to live in the neighbourhood, sits there every morning having his breakfast. He is also there in the evenings. From time to time he gets visitors. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| "The Island" was created and realized by Christian Hasucha for the Street-Art Project OKKUPATION, curated by Birgit Schumacher and Uwe Jonas, supported by Kulturamt Neukölln and Hauptstadtkulturfonds Berlin. The Island had over 200 visitors within 4 weeks - visitors had to make appointments. In 2007, THE ISLAND was invited by the project gallery Voorkamer from Lier (Belgium). Thanks to Peter Morrens, Rik de Boe, Sophie D´Hulst and the municipal structural engineer for their help installing the Island on the market square in Lier. A nearby travel agency organised the reservations. In 2008, it was part of the BELLUARD BOLLWERK INTERNATIONAL festival Fribourg, curated by Sally De Kunst, supported by Migros 1 Per cent-Program. THE ISLAND has been chosen and proposed for Fribour by the group WRIGHTS & SITES from Exeter (GB). In 2020.
